Fix driver for HP Pavilion 503w (US) Click the Download Now button on the bottom of this page,­ and then use the following instructions to extract and install the patch on the HP Pavilion computer.­ If you are downloading this file to another PC,­ to create a patch disk,­ you should print these instructions.­ A printable version is available by using the "Printable Version" link at the top of this page.­ Installing the patch if your computer starts normally: "2"> Follow these instructions to avoid PC problems that could occur if you install Windows XP SP1.­ You can install the HP patch before or after you install Windows XP SP1.­ "4">After you download the file,­ double-click the SP1RcvryFix.­exe file to begin extracting the HP patch files.­ A message appears: "This update resolves the incompatibility between Windows XP Service Pack 1 and your PC's Standard recovery" (sometimes referred to as non-destructive recovery).­ "4">Click OK.­ The WinZip Self-Extractor window opens.­ "4">Click Unzip to unzip the files.­ "4">When a message appears that the HP patch files were unzipped successfully,­ click OK to start the SP1 patch installation.­ "4">When a message appears that the HP patch was installed successfully,­ click OK.­ "Arial" size="4">The computer has been updated with the SP1 patch.­ "Arial" size="2">Creating a disk to install the patch if your computer does not start: "4">You will require one pre-formatted floppy disk,­ and access to another PC with an Internet connection.­ "4">WARNING: If your system does not start,­ you may be required to do a Standard recovery,­ if the patch is not successful.­ This may cause some personal data,­ and software to be removed.­ If possible,­ back up any personal data you have before running a recovery.­ Software that has been added to the system will have to be re-installed.­ A Full system recovery (sometimes referred to as destructive recovery) will erase all data and the system will be returned to its original state,­ at time of purchase.­ "Arial" size="2">Use the following instructions to extract and install the patch.­ "4">Extracting the patch: "4">After you download the file,­ double-click the SP1RcvryFix.­exe file to begin extracting the HP patch files.­ A message appears: "This update resolves the incompatibility between Windows XP Service Pack 1 and your PC's Standard recovery" (sometimes referred to as non-destructive recovery).­ "4">Click OK.­ The WinZip Self-Extractor window opens.­ "4">In the Unzip to: box,­ replace the selected text with A: to unzip your files to a floppy disk drive.­ "4">Remove the check in the box labeled "When done unzipping open: 24WWSP1.­exe".­ "4">Insert a blank formatted floppy disk into the floppy disk drive on the computer on which you are working.­ "4">Click Unzip to unzip the files onto the floppy disk.­ "4">When a message appears that the HP patch files were unzipped successfully,­ click OK.­ "4">Click Close to close the WinZip Self-Extractor window "4">Confirm that the patch was successfully created.­ Double click the "My Computer" icon.­ Then double click the floppy drive (A) to show its contents.­ There should be at least four files,­ one of which will be named fpatch.­bat.­ If the contents are different or empty,­ repeat the above "Extracting the patch" instructions carefully.­ "4">Remove the Floppy disk from drive.­ "4">Installing the patch: "4">Restart the computer,­ and then press the F10 key on the keyboard before the blue HP logo screen appears.­ This opens the HP computer System Recovery utility.­ (If you press F10 after the logo screen appears,­ the System Recovery utility won't open.­ If necessary,­ repeat the procedure until the System Recovery utility starts.­) "4">In the System Recovery utility,­ click the Advanced Options button.­ "4">Press ALT+D on the keyboard to open a command prompt window.­ "4">Insert the patch disk into the floppy disk drive on the PC needing repair.­ "4">Type A: and then press the Enter key.­ "4">Type fpatch.­bat and then press the Enter key.­ A message should appear stating that the patch was successfully installed.­ "4">Type Exit and press the Enter key.­ "4">Remove the floppy disk from the floppy disk drive.­ "4">Click Back to return to the main screen of the System Recovery utility.­ "4">Click Quit,­ and the system should start up normally.­ "Arial" size="2">If the system does not start up properly,­ then repeat,­ "Installing the Patch" except items 9 and 10.­Perform a Standard recovery after item 8using the following instructions.­ "4">Click Back to return to the main screen of the System Recovery utility.­ "4">Click Next to start a non-destructive system recovery.­ "4">Click Yes to confirm that you want to perform a system recovery.­ "4">When the system recovery process is finished,­ click Restart.­ Compatible devices: P9855A
